Wondercon Roundup: Greg Pak writes X-Treme, Ms Marvel becomes a Captain

Wondercon has been going on for the past few days, and Marvel had one or two announcements to make there. The first is that their teased relaunch of ‘X-Treme X-Men’ is actually going to be more of a relaunch for Exiles, as writer Greg Pak will be in charge of the title and link it back to his previous ‘alternate unvierse’ work in Astonishing X-Men. The cast includes Dazzler, as far as we know, but other details aren’t forthcoming right now. It seems like she may be the sole member of the 616 present in the title, as everybody else will be a variant version of established characters. Steven Segovia will draw the series, and here’s a cover to give you some idea of the alternate reality nature of the book.

The biggest Marvel news from the convention, though, was the announcement that KellySue DeConnick and Dexter Soy will be revitalising Marvel’s Captain Marvel series, but with Carol Danvers in the title role. This is another one of those ‘spins out of AVX’ things, so nobody is allowed to say too much about it. However, the new costume is pretty great, it’s a chance to have a grandstanding female role in the Marvel Universe, and hopefully it’ll be successful and provide a launchpad for more Marvel titles starring female characters. It also pretty much closes off any thoughts people were having about Marvel rebooting themselves, and Soy’s artwork looks great. This is going to be a good thing!
