With only one full appearance in a comic, and a few cameos thereafter, you’d be forgiven for not knowing who Armory is. Created by Dan Slott and Stefano Caselli, she appears as one of a group of new AVengers recruits in “Avengers: The Initiative” #1. Jumping off the bus with an immediate attitude and fully-formed personality, she has a futuristic alien weapon grafted – and apparently stuck permanently – onto her left arm.
One of the most memorable of the first group of students, things go horribly wrong very quickly, during the first training exercise for the students. Panicked by a sudden incident, she loses control of her weapon and it starts firing haphazardly – shooting one of the other kids straight through the head in the process.
The government cover up the event (and looking back now, I’m AMAZED that Slott got this story through Marvel editorial. This is some pretty strong stuff right here!) and remove the weapon from her arm, before discharging her from the Initiative program. In one fell swoop, two of the more promising new characters were wiped from the story. MVP, the dead boy, comes back later in one form or another – but Armory never gets any further closure than the first issue.
Bring her back!!
