Somewhat forgotten by Marvel despite being a centrepiece of the Thor movies, Jane Foster has run hot or cold within the comics continuity. That is, apart from her time as part of the cast of Roger Langridge and Chris Samnee’s Thor: The Mighty Avenger, a run which advocated for her to be returned to the spotlight… but sadly didn’t seem to achieve that goal.
But what a run it was, eh? Langridge created an all-ages fantasy story for the ages, without shying away from the adult nature of the world – or of Jane’s growing relationship with the mighty Avenger. Over the course of the series, this was one of the best treatments of a female character in superhero comics, layered, meaningful, and always empathetic and realistic. Jane Foster may not appear in the main Thor runs – but she’s in this run, my favourite run, and I won’t be forgetting about her anytime soon.
