Archaia Announce More of Josh Tierney’s ‘Spera’ series in ‘Ascension of the Starless’

Something I saw on Comics & Cola which got me interested was Archaia’s announcement that they’ll be publishing further volumes of Josh Tierney’s ‘Spera’ series in October. I believe this is a series which was created by Josh Tierney and designed by artist Afu Chan, in which Princesses Lono and Pira, from neighbouring Kingdoms, head off on various quests through worlds and magic, menace, and fantastical monsters. Each volume of the series is written and edited by Tierney, who each time gathers together a number of webcomic artists and brings them to draw or create the stories.

So for the past few years, people like Emily Carroll, Kyla Vanderklugt, Michael Dialynas, Ken Niimura and Sam Bosma have been involved in telling the main story, as well as side stories involving the characters. Beginning on the web, the series saw print through Archaia hardcovers, of which three have been released.

‘Spera: Ascension of the Starless’ will see several new volumes of the series published by Archaia, as Tierney now invites Giannis Milonogiannis,  Cécile Brun and Olivier Pichard, Mindy Lee, Sourya Sihachakr, and Valentin Seiche to the project. The new story sees the Queen of the Starless plan an invasion of Spera, with the two Princesses tasked on a mission to find the King of Spera and let him know of the incoming invasion – will they get there on time?

It all sounds rather wonderful, and Zainab has some artwork over there to give you a brief idea of what to expect. I hadn’t heard of any of this before, but I really like the premise and style of the work presented so far – this seems worth keeping an eye on.
