Vanesa R Del Rey to be Spotlighted in ‘Hit: Pen + Ink’ Issue this October

With an incredibly successful year in published comics behind her, artist Vanesa R Del Rey will be featured this October in a ‘pen and Ink’ edition of her book ‘Hit’.

A crime noir story written by Bryce Carlson, Hit sees a detective come up against a clandestine operation in which groups of the police force moonlight at hitmen for the mob. Things, as you may expect from a noir series, go sour quickly. The miniseries itself was an entertaining one, but Del Rey’s art in particular garnered heaps and heaps of acclaim.

The ‘Pen and Ink’ edition reprints her work without lettering or colours, I believe, so readers can pick up an issue made up solely of her work as artist. The news caps off a startling year for the artist, who was recently nominated for a Russ Manning Award at this year’s Eisners – an award designed to celebrate newcomers to comics. She’s currently working on The Empty Man with writer Cullen Bunn, also for Boom.
