Alex de Campi’s ‘Grindhouse’ Returns for Season Two with R.M. Guéra, Afua Richardson, and more

Dark Horse Comics have announced the return of Alex de Campi’s Grindhouse series, which takes the exploitation genre and drags it unwillingly into the comics medium; kicking, screaming, and spluttering blood. Violent, gross, rude and shocking, each season so far has told four stories over the course of eight issues, with a new artist on each.

The same is true here, with the first two-part storyline set to be “Slay Ride” with artist R.M. Guéra, late of Scalped and 2000AD. Billed as “a bloody Christmastime western” – see above for the cover, and a better idea of what to expect – that’ll be kicking off the series in November. Following Slay Ride, the next three arcs will see Afua Richardson, Chris Peterson and Ulises Farinas come to the series for a story each.

Peterson was involved in the first season of Grindhouse, on the “Bee Vixens from Mars” storyline – and will here be following up with a sequel to that story which’ll be called ‘Blood Lagoon’. This was long-teased as in the works, with Peterson and colourist Nolan Woodard hinting at plans for a sequel during the promo for their first story.

Richardson, who just wrapped ‘Genius’ at Top Cow, will be working on ‘Lady Danger: International Agent of B.O.O.T.I.’ which I think explains itself better than I could – it’s the much-expected trip into blaxploitation.

Finally, Farinas will be artist for Nebulina, which is described as “a Barbarella-style space-bound sex fest”. And I think you may be starting to see a bit of that 2000AD influence creeping into the production, here – Farinas was last seen as artist on Judge Dredd: Mega City 2 at IDW.

With alternating covers from Francesco Francavilla, Grindhouse: Drive In, Bleed Out #1 is due out this November.
