Boom’s solicitations for January 2015 are out! There are a few new comic announcements scattered in there – like a Marceline miniseries from Meredith Gran and Carey Pietsch – and some other interesting things going on. The most interesting, though, is possibly the news that a new creative team will be taking over Adventure Time as of issue #33.
Chris Hastings and Zachary Sterling, to be precise.
They’ll be taking over from the Eisner-nominated team of Ryan North, Shelli Paroline and Braden Lamb, so no pressure there, then. That an Adventure time comic would be popular is no great surprise – but for the last two years or so KaBOOM! have surprised with the quality of their series. Not only have they featured a variety of incredible artists over the thirty-odd issues, but they’re really gone out their way to experiment and try new things with a series when they could have easily tread water and cashed-in on it.
So! Big shoes to fill. Chris Hastings you may know as the creator of Dr McNinja, which has been one of the more popular webcomics of the last few years (it’s about exactly what you think it’s about, and is fantastic) whilst Zachary Sterling has been working on a series of Adventure Time graphic novels for the company already (and is also one of the designers for Bee & Puppycat, if I’ve got my Zacharys correct). So they’re a really solid choice for the incoming creative team. Sounds good? Sounds good.
